Dame's Rocket, also called Sweet Rocket, is a charming biennial or perennial flower admired for its clusters of fragrant, four-petaled blooms in shades of purple, pink, and white. The blooms, resembling phlox flowers, appear on upright stems that can reach heights of 2 to 4 feet. It's nickname "Sweet Rocket" comes from its sweet, spicy fragrance, which intensifies in the evening hours, making it a favorite in cottage gardens and wildflower meadows. Blooming from late spring to early summer, Dame's Rocket attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its sweet fragrance and nectar-rich flowers. Once planted, Dame's Rocket easily self-seeds and can spread quickly if not managed.

    Planting Instructions:

     

     

    Soil Preparation:

    Remove weeds, large rocks, and litter from the planting area. Till the soil 8-10 inches deep and rake several times to break up large clods. It is best to do this when the soil is dry enough to not stick to garden tools. Loosening the soil will help the plant establish strong roots.
     

    Planting:

    Plant in late Fall after a killing frost or early Spring before the last average frost date. If Spring-planting after frost, cold-stratify seeds by mixing seeds with moist soil or sand in a resealable bag and place in the refrigerator for at least 4 weeks before direct sowing. Add 1/2" - 3/4" layer of peat moss, sawdust, or potting soil to top of a mostly sunny and clear area. Broadcast seeds then water to push seeds into area. Keep moist until established. Adaptive, self-seeding biennial/perennial.
