The King of the Garden Lima Pole Bean is a vigorous climber that can soar up to 10 feet! Known for its impressive productivity, this heirloom variety yields large, creamy-white, flat, crescent-shaped 1-inch-long beans within 4-6-inch pods and will produce until frost. The King of the Garden Lima Bean was introduced in 1883 by Frank S. Platt, a seedsman from New Haven, Connecticut. It quickly gained popularity due to its exceptional yield and reliable performance. King of the Garden Limas played a crucial role in the diets of early American settlers, who relied on its high protein content and storability to get through harsh winters. Ideal for growing in warm climates, these beans are perfect for fresh eating, canning, or freezing. To prepare, shell the beans from their pods and cook them in boiling water until tender, or add them directly to soups, stews, or succotash for a hearty, nutritious boost.
Also Known As: Pole Lima Bean, Climbing Bean, Platt's Improved Lima Bean, Platt King Lima Bean, Schwill's Monstrous Pole, White Lima, Large Lima Bean.

Planting Instructions:
Soil Preparation:
Remove weeds, large rocks, and litter from the planting area. Till the soil 8-10 inches deep and rake several times to break up large clods. It is best to do this when the soil is dry enough to not stick to garden tools. Loosening the soil will help the plant establish strong roots.Planting:
In the Spring, plant beans after all danger of frost has passed. In the Fall, plant beans 14 to 16 weeks before the first expected frost. Plant pole beans in hills about 2 feet apart in the row. Space the rows about 3-4 feet apart. Place a 6-8-foot stake in the center of each hill. Plant 3-4 seeds around the stake about 1-1/2 inches deep in the soil. Planting in moist soil is best for seeds to germinate and emerge quickly.
