Soil Preparation:
Remove weeds, large rocks, and litter from the planting area. Till the soil 10 - 12 inches deep and rake several times to break up large clods. It is best to do this when the soil is dry enough to not stick to garden tools. Loosening the soil will help the plant establish strong roots.Planting:
Optionally, start indoors 6-8 weeks before last average frost date in Spring. In colder climates, starting 6-8 weeks indoors in >3" pots is recommended. Harden off for 5 days then transplant seedlings, or direct sow seeds, outdoors once temperatures reach 70F in Spring. Lay down 1/2"-3/4" peat moss, sawdust, or potting soil, then sprinkle seeds on top. Water seeds into soil. Do not bury deep. Keep moist until established. Prefers hot weather.
