Purple Coneflower

The Purple Coneflower, or "Echinacea purpurea" is a North American species of flowering plant in the sunflower family. It is a popular perennial with smooth stems and long-lasting, lavender flowers. Depending on the climate, it blooms throughout summer into autumn. The flower is an achene, which is highly sought after by birds. Native Americans have also used the medicinal properties of this plant to treat many ailments, including wounds, insect bites, toothaches, stomach pain, and snake bites.

Planting Instructions:

Plant indoors 1 month before the last average spring frost ¼ inch deep in soil. Transplant outdoors when soil reaches at least 65F. Blooms will appear in about 2 years. Perennial in zones 3-10. Cut back 6-12 inches when plants come into bloom for staggered bloom heights and times.
