Green Globe Artichoke (Cynara Scolymus) is an old-fashioned Italian variety of beautiful round, fleshy-scaled green artichokes with a light purple tinge and thick, flavorful hearts. Green Globe Artichoke plants can grow up to 6 feet tall with artichoke buds 3-5 inches in diameter. This hardy plant can be grown as a perennial in warmer climates or overwintered in colder climates.

Planting Instructions:

Plant seedlings 1/4 inch deep indoors 8-12 weeks before last frost, keep soil at 65F. Option:  When seedling forms 2-3 leaves, vernalize by placing in refrigerator or  in environments of 50F temperatures or colder to enhance growth. Direct sowing outdoors is possible but maturation may be slower. Transplant the seedlings outside two weeks after the last spring frost. Artichokes can also be Fall planted, especially in warmer climates.
